The Program: The NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program
Absolute authenticity. Organized and detailed availability. Historical sensitivity. Precise marketability. This is the credo of the NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program.
- Absolute authenticity. We've developed a system that numbers, tags, and security-codes the jerseys worn by each of the clubs participating in the program. These counterfeit-proof, security-enhanced tags are located inside each jersey. They are sewn into the bottom hems of the jerseys, before the jerseys are distributed to the teams. They carry unidentified covert features that can be detected only by an authorized NHL-MGG Authenticator. The serial number in the jersey will correspond to a database kept by the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program. Each participating team in the program files Master Inventory Forms through the season. These forms identify the jerseys worn in each set with regard to player, color, number, size and customizations, if any. These records are checked and cross-checked throughout the season. We're watching video of the jerseys, taking photos of the jerseys, staying on top of the jerseys to ensure that what goes on the ice gets off the ice
and directly into your collection.

- Organized and detailed availability. Each of the teams in the program is scheduled to wear four sets of home and four sets of road jerseys each season: One set of jerseys (one home and one road) during the exhibition season, two sets of jerseys (two homes, two roads) strictly during the regular season, and one set of jerseys (one home and one road) during the final weeks of the regular season and into the Stanley Cup playoffs, for teams that qualify. Players may wear two jerseys per color in a home or road set, as needed. Exceptions may also be made for players who require additional jerseys due to excessive wear and tear. The teams in the program who wear a third jersey will wear two sets of thirds, one during the first half of the season, one during the second half of the season. In situations where teams wear their thirds unevenly during the regular season, the two sets will be worn in approximately the same number of games. The program also calls for clubs to occasionally wear additional jerseys that may be used by the clubs for charitable and other non-commercial events (e.g. Shirts Off Their Backs Night). These jerseys will be tagged and registered into the Authentication Program, but will be specifically identified as Promotional Jerseys and will not be available for sale. Each year, the Stanley Cup Finals are completed and all jerseys are delivered to the program, an NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Population Report will be available to the game-worn jersey collecting public. This report will list every jersey worn within the rules and regulations of the program.

- Historical sensitivity. Not every jersey worn on the ice this season by the participating teams in the program will be available. Notable achievements, record-setting performances, and jerseys worthy of display in the Hockey Hall of Fame or team trophy cases will be identified and secured.

- Precise marketability. Integrity is paramount in our eyes, and every move made by the program is made with the collector in mind. The National Hockey League and the MeiGray Group jointly pledge to uphold the standards that have made the game-worn hockey jersey hobby one of the sports memorabilia world's most exciting and enjoyable pursuits.
